Kijewski / Kocur

Marek Kijewski (1955 - 2007, graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw) and Małgorzata Malinowska (1959 - 2016, graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Graphics and Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk) were cooperating since 1995 as Kijewski/Kocur duo in Warsaw, Poland.

They were exploring various fields of contemporary visual culture, using an original, self-imposed strategy called SSS – surfing, scanning, sampling. They were creating spectacular collage spatial forms out of such materials like Lego bricks, Haribo sweets, artificial fur, feathers, neon tubes, precious stones and 24-karat gold. They were freely compiling materials commonly defined as „high” with what is „low”, crossing without embarrassing the boundaries between culture orders, by constructing wild aesthetically-semantic hybrids.
